Time Management Tips!

In order to reduce stress and remain efficient, a nursing student must have effective time management skills. As a nurse, you will be juggling a multitude of tasks at a time. Nursing school not only prepares you with the material but the time management skills you adapt along the way will mold you into a well-prepared, future nurse!

Here's some tips on how to properly manage your time during nursing school:

• Keep a schedule! Go through your syllabus and mark important dates in your calendar ( I like to highlight and use colorful pens) so that you know ahead of time to get other assignments, studying, and work schedules figured out.

• Stay organized! Make sure your folders and notebooks are neat so that all your material is easily accessible. Store folders on your laptops with powerpoints from every class and have weekly to-do lists to make sure your staying on track.

• Go with the flow! Sometimes life gets in the way of predicted plans and you have to adapt to the situation. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get assignments and studying done so that you don't stress yourself out when the due date arrives or you do yourself a disservice from doing the best you could have on the assignment.

• Allow time for self-care! Nursing school is busy so remembering to give yourself some time to de-stress and do something enjoyable will rejuvenate your mind.

• Prioritzing! This is a very beneficial skill you will utilize throughout your schooling and career. Figure out what assignments need your attention first, what takes longer to do, and what is due sooner.

• Have a study group! Finding friends within the program that you can learn from and push you to be a better student are a special find. Nursing friends HIT different when your up all night studying together for the next Pharm exam. They can be a great study tool and allow you to be social and have fun while getting work done.
