One of Maslow's tiers from his hierarchy of needs is 'Belongingness and Love' which is what SNA offers to students. Hi, my name is Oscar, and similar to other students in the Nursing program I was not as engaged in SNA my first few years. I was introverted until I decided to become active in the program my Junior year. Becoming more active meant communicating with other Nursing students and participating in events or meetings. Being actively involved in SNA has helped my personal development, communication, acquire sense of belonging along with allowing me to become student of the month, secretary, and a member of NAHN (National Association of Hispanic Nurses). Communication is a critical nursing skill to develop for the future and for clinicals. I'm sure a lot of us have been in your shoes where you just want to go to class and then home or your dorm, but I assure you that it is worth it when you take initiative and become a proactive member of SNA. Having a sense of belongingness makes you feel part of something where you can make a change in the world and it all starts here at SNA! We're not just a school organization, we are a FAMILY.
